Plato EBR hosts Meet the Buyer event for Food Cluster

Over 20 participants from the Micro and SMEs Food and Drinks sector across the East Border Region showcased at a recent a “Meet the Buyer” event in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dundalk.  The event was hosted by PLATO EBR which is a cross border project part financed by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA Cross Border Programme.  

This event was part of the wider offering of the Plato EBR Food Clustering Programme. This customised support was aimed at assisting those local Food and Drinks businesses with the potential to develop new sales opportunities in cross border markets (NI, UK, ROI), via an integrated suite of training workshops, partnership working and strategy development.

The participating companies in the “Meet the Buyer” event included a number of craft beers and ciders, baked goods, healthy snacks, chutneys, oils, preserves, micro greens and specialised Free from products. Buyers representing a diverse range of sectors included Food Service operators, Hoteliers, Specialist shops and Retailers. Speaking about the event, Eilín Connolly Network Manager said, “ This showcase is geared at helping link trade buyers with the Food producer community of the East Border Region. It will also serve as an occasion for buyers to find new innovative products for their range and/or to offer feedback and guidance to potential food suppliers”.

 Dr Cecilia Hegarty, Plato EBR Programme Director stated, “Over the last few years there has been considerable interest and activity in Clustering and regional development. This Food Cluster has been a great opportunity for local businesses to make contact with and learn from leading food experts. We fully support the bringing together of owners and managers in this way and recognise that it is an effective method of helping indigenous businesses grow”.

The PLATO EBR Programme aims to strategically assist Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) for competitive growth in a cross-border capacity across the East Border Region.
