PLATO EBR Launches its Food Clustering Programme

The Plato EBR Food Clustering Programme is aimed at assisting those local Food and Drinks businesses with potential to develop new sales opportunities in cross border markets (NI, UK, ROI), via an integrated programme of training workshops, partnership working and strategy development.

The Food Cluster is made up of 15 companies who represent a diverse range of food categories  from across the East Border Region. Attendees were officially welcomed by Network Manager of PLATO EBR, Eilín Connolly. Speaking about the programme, Eilín Connolly said, “Over the last few years there has been considerable interest and activity in Clustering and regional development”.  She continued, “We see this Food Cluster as a great opportunity for local Food business to make contact with and learn from leading food experts. We fully support the bringing together of owners and managers in this way and recognise that it is an effective method of helping indigenous food businesses grow”.

Plato EBR is delighted to have Mr. James Burke of James Burke & Associates delivering the Food Cluster programme on their behalf. The 6- month blended programme, will consist of guest speakers and a customised suite of workshops designed to meet the needs of the group. In addition, participants will be able to make a cross border pitch a “Meet the Buyer Event” in Spring 2015. One of the participating companies, Rafferty Fine Foods which is owned by Yvonne and Declan Rafferty said: "We are excited to be part of PLATO EBR which offers support and guidance to SMEs like ourselves. This forum gives us access to the experts in the food industry which will enable us to move our business forward.  It also provides an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and views with other SME's in the region."
