Carlingford Adventure Centre

 

Carlingford Adventure Centre recently celebrated 20 successful years in business. From their humble beginnings in, what used to be the old bonded warehouse in the centre of this quaint Medieval Village, this family run business has grown from strength to strength. Founded by Tom and Mary McArdle in 1990 after a family holiday, the family tradition is now carried on by their son, Thomas, who launched skypark zip line last year.

County Museum Dundalk

 

The County Museum, Dundalk is located in a beautifully restored late 18th century warehouse in the Carroll Centre at Roden Place in Jocelyn Street. Funded by Dundalk Town Council the museum opened in 1994 and offers an extensive programme of permanent exhibitions, temporary displays, drama presentations, music recitals, lecture and film. The County Museum, Dundalk is one of Ireland's finest Local Authority Museums.  Opened in 1994 the Museum is located in a lovingly restored 18th C distillery.  The distillery once boasted the tallest chimney in Ireland, but unfortunately, could not draw smoke.

Drumlin Belt Adventures is an aptly named start-up outdoor activity-based company along the East Border Region strip. A Drumlin refers to the strip of rounded glacial hills which runs right across the country from Strangford Lough in County Down to Clew Bay in Mayo.

A drumlin originates form the Irish droimnín, a little hill ridge and formed by glacial action. There are diverse types of activities that the company offers based on how adventurous the customer is!

Old Carrick Mill

Old Carrick Mill is a new start-up company established by Steven Murphy of Inniskeen, County Monaghan. Old Carrick Mill are an artisan craft distillery using a modern approach to instil old Irish traditions and flavours. Branding based on Irish Poet Patrick Kavanagh and using 100% irish raw ingredients, they are working from the new food specified commercial unit in Co Monaghan. Steven was the County Monaghan Best Young Start-up and has now been crowned North East Region winner in Ireland’s Best Young entrepreneur Awards 2014.

Pats Art Studio

Pats Art Studio is headed up by Pat Doyle based in the historic heritage village of Slane in the heart of the Boyne Valley in the royal county of Meath. The studio covers artistic display including local, Irish and international landscapes and seascapes in addition to a range of figure paintings and drawings.

The artist, Pat Doyle, whilst pursuing an alternative and varied career, studied art over many years at Dublin NCAD and DLIADT as well as many national and international workshops. The most important art training contribution was 2 years spent wholetime at the Art Students League of New York.

Apart from Slane Community Forum’s tourism role is to update  Slane’s Local Area Plan in the Meath County Development Plan review. The Forum has been set up recently as a representative organization, drawing from most associations and organizations in the village. It has been established to help guide the village through a likely period of great change, adopting a developmental approach to ensure that the village will achieve a degree of self-sufficiency with a dynamic pattern of growth, whilst ensuring that its qualities, both built and natural, will be retained and reinforced.

Slane Farm Hostel and cottages are situated on the working dairy farm of Paddy and Joanne Macken and their family.  The historic coach house and stables that once belonged to Slane Castle have been respectfully refurbished and converted into a luxury hostel and six self catering cottages which are 4-Star approved. There are lots of walkways throughout the farm and guests can enjoy their time looking at our farming enterprise or taking a hike to the Hill of Slane or just stroll around the gardens and enjoy the free range eggs from our hens and ducks or picking vegetable from our vegetable garden. Situated just 2km from the village of Slane and next door to Slane Castle this is an ideal base for travelling around the Boyne Valley.
