PLATO Cluster Commences in Louth

Today saw PLATO launch its fourth Management Development Programme of the 2019-20 Season at Creative Spark, Dundalk, County Louth.

The Louth Cluster welcomes small companies from across both Louth and Monaghan counties from diverse industry sectors to the PLATO EBR Programme. For the 2019-20 Programme, PLATO held open recruitment for all areas in the Region and only 10 small participant companies will make the cut in each cluster in order to ensure a rich but focussed learning environment for all.

The industry sectors represented include IT and software, Acoustical Engineering, Health and Sports, Manufacturing and Construction. The programme offers owner managers a business support forum where they can network and discuss business ideas with peers and established large ‘parent’ companies in the region. These ‘parent’ companies are leaders in their industry sectors and support the programme by sharing their skills and experience within the network. PLATO EBR is delighted to have announced today its key leaders as Stephen Hogg CEO of Bellurgan to support this Louth cluster.

A seasoned group leader for PLATO EBR Stephen denoted the importance of companies taking time out to focus on their company, “Having worked in different organisations over many years, with an accountancy background, the first area of focus has to be finance, being in it to make profit.”

Bellurgan Precision began as a commercial enterprise in 1978. Founded by Bernard Carroll, the company was focused on delivering precision engineering products and services to a number of multinational and indigenous manufacturers operating in Ireland. An increased focus on Bellurgan’s 3 'I's of continuous Improvement, continuous Investment and continuous Innovation in recent years has propelled company growth significant with some of the world’s largest medical/pharma companies and the company has worked closed in partnership to solve real problems for suppliers and customers, not just for outside the human body but for medical technologies fitting inside the human body. Recently, Bellurgan Precision were invited by Medtronic to their Operational HQ in Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend a Top 100 Global Supplier Recognition Conference. At the event, attended by 103 companies and nearly 400 people, Medtronic recognised Bellurgan as one of 12 of those companies with a Supplier Excellence Award. Stephen said “I travel 2 hours each way to work, and I do it because of the people I work with - committed hard working individuals who go above and beyond every day for the company”....the PLATO Programme will allow companies the opportunity to really think about what they want for themselves and their company in next few years….and I’m delighted to support the challenges they face in any way I can”.

Dr Cecilia Hegarty manager of PLATO in the EBR Region encouraged PLATO participant companies to “take the time out to work on the business and enjoy the intellectual challenge it provides”.

Attendees were officially welcomed by Director of PLATO EBR, Dr Cecilia Hegarty in thanking the main sponsor for this cluster Louth County Council and Local Enterprise Office. Cecilia emphasised how parent companies underpin the work of the Network and the importance of acknowledging the support of Bellurgan.

PLATO EBR is funded by the four Local Enterprises Offices and County Councils in Cavan, Louth, Meath and Monaghan and four Northern Ireland partners of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Mid Ulster District Council and Fermanagh and Omagh Council.
