Building Your Business
Mid-Ulster Parent Companies Complete the Mid-Ulster Cluster Activity

25 June 2019

During the year, Mid-Ulster District Council has supported growth-oriented companies in the Region by funding the licensed Management Development Programme, PLATO. Ambitious Mid Ulster businesses were offered a unique opportunity to invest in their management and leadership skills through a customised programme underpinned by peer to peer learning but also led by the Bigger Guys, termed Parent Companies.

The parent companies for the Cluster were Pat Walls, MD for Bulrush and Eamon Donnelly Chairperson of Uform and Mid-Ulster Business Person of the Year. Pat of Bulrush said “I enjoyed working with the participant companies in the Region and identifying areas for development within their respective businesses”.

The participant companies engaged in the cluster were from diverse industry sectors from Digital, Manufacturing, Service, and Agri-food. The Cluster met monthly in Uform Holdings premises where the programme covered a range of business growth challenges. The clients also availed of Site Visits to Bulrush and Uform.

Eamon Donnelly of Uform commented, “Owner managers seeking to grow their business face a number of different issues and many key challenges. Personally I’ve been delighted to give whatever advice I can to support Mid-Ulster businesses and I hope that my insights and experiences in growing my own business has helped others along their growth journey.”

PLATO thanks Eamon & Pat for giving of their time and expertise to support the Programme and to Uform for hosting and providing catering for the monthly meetings. Dr Cecilia Hegarty who manages the PLATO Programme across the East Border Region commented “Working with Eamon and Pat was very much like working with the dream team, they were committed and knowledgeable. Given their own background and experiences they were able to tackle the tough issues which the participant companies were facing. And as important they were both easy and good fun to work with.”  As one Participant company summed up “I’m a technical person who loves to escape into technical aspects of the business, so PLATO was particularly useful for me as I was challenged/educated on a monthly basis. But I only want to learnt from the best and that is what I got in the PLATO Mid-Ulster Cluster. Pat I admire as a person as well as a successful business man and Eamon is passionate, the ultimate expert in sales and so generous in sharing his expertise.”

PLATO is recruiting for another Programme intake, if you’re a small growth-oriented company, register your interest with cecilia@platoebr.com and if you’re a Parent company interested in giving back please also contact Dr Cecilia Hegarty, Tel: +353 (0) 860227123.
