Launching PLATO Programmes for 2019-20 Season

Today saw PLATO launch its first Management Development Programme of the 2019-20 Season at Quinn Group Training and Innovation Academy.

The Cavan/Monaghan/Fermanagh Cluster welcomes small companies from diverse industry sectors to the PLATO EBR Programme. The industry sectors represented including engineering, design, digital, professional services, hospitality and manufacturing. The programme offers owner managers a business support forum where they can network and discuss business ideas with peers and established large ‘parent’ companies in the Region.

These ‘parent’ companies are leaders in their industry sectors and support the programme by sharing their skills and experience within the network. PLATO EBR is delighted to have announced today its two key leaders, Peadar Maguire, Managing Director of Quinn Therm and Lyn Sharkey Projects and Innovation Director with Abcon to support this border cluster.

Quinn Therm part of the Quinn Group has an extensive range of PIR insulation products with top-performing thermal conductive properties for use in floors, roofs and walls. The full range of Quinn Therm PIR Insulation boards have zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and a A+ green guide rating, making them not just thermally efficient but will improve the overall sustainability of the building. The Quinn Therm factory has witnessed much change over the years, investment and recent involvement in LEAN and new processes as a result of R&D has stabilised growth and ensured continuity of supply. Peadar said “We’ve learn a lot over the years on product development, we’ve also learnt a lot from the mistakes we made in the factory. If we can be of any help to others and save them time and money, that would be a plus”

Lyn Sharkey of ABCON, has an interesting growth journey in PLATO, first joining as an applicant company and since then leading 2 clusters through two 12-month programmes. “Now in my fourth year of working with PLATO, I can see real value in the Programme for small growth-oriented companies, taking the time out to focus on growth challenges is to commended when there is such heavy demands on your time and I’m back because I get a lot out of it too!”

Some takeaways from the session were: -

- Focus on growth and need for planning
- Strategy in Action – Eye on the prize, what is your prize or big hairy audacious goal (BHag)
- Strategy in Practice – breaking the vision into sub-goals, and identifying who is going to help
- Importance of listening to really be able to create and manage change

“some say You are what you read or you are what you listen to as part of your PLATO Group”

Dr Cecilia Hegarty manager of PLATO in the EBR Region said “There will be business and personal ups and downs throughout your growth journey – you will learn more about yourself from those testing times and it provides focus, PLATO also provides that supporting forum for focus, you put in what you get out, showing up physically and mentally are two different things, become self-aware”

Attendees were officially welcomed by Director of PLATO EBR, Dr Cecilia Hegarty who thanked the main sponsor for this cluster, Cavan and Monaghan County Councils and their respective Local Enterprise Offices. PLATO is indebted to its parent companies and Cecilia thanked Quinn Therm and Abcon for their support.
