East Border Region Host Annual General Meeting - Building Bridges

At its Annual General Meeting held on Thursday 13th December 2012, in the Balmoral Hotel, Warrenpoint East Border Region were delighted to provide members with an overview of the success of the Organisation during the past year.  The EBR is a cross border local authority led Organisation who are part-financed by the European Union's INTERREG IVA Cross-border Programme.

Speaking at the conference Ms Pamela Arthurs, Chief Executive provided members with an overview of the 13 INTERREG IVA funded projects which EBR administer which total a staggering €32.4 million. She further demonstrated the range of the 13 projects which span the fields of Enterprise, Tourism and Environment with the most recently approved project being the 'jewel in the crown' of EBR - the Narrow Water Bridge project. The Narrow Water Bridge Project was awarded €17.4 million of INTERREG IVA funding on 24th October 2012 and is being led by East Border Region with Louth County Council and Newry and Mourne District Council as project partners. 

The East Border Region Board appointed Cllr Gerald Mallon, Armagh City and District Council as Chairman for the incoming year while Cllr Alan McDowell from Ards Borough Council and Councillor Pearse McGeough from Louth County Council were elected as Vice-Chairs.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting Cllr Mallon stated that he was delighted and honoured to accept the position of Chairperson of the East Border Region Board.  He paid tribute to the outgoing Chair, Councillor Jackie Crowe and stated that he hoped that he could emulate his predecessors' achievements.
