All You Need to Know about NI Customs and Trade

The Northern Ireland Customs & Trade Academy (NICTA) is a new online learning platform preparing firms for new processes involved in moving goods under the Northern Ireland Protocol that starts from 1 January 2021.

Developed as part of the Trader Support Service (TSS), NICTA provides online training, webinars and ‘how-to’ guides to all those involved in trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

All courses are accredited by the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT).

Introduction to Customs - overview of customs procedures and process at a global and GB:NI level from January 2021.  In this course, you will gain an understanding of the essentials required to facilitate Great Britain - Northern Ireland goods movements. This course will also communicate customs requirements and how to successfully begin navigating them. 

Logistics in GB:NI Trade - introduced to trade and logistics specific to GB:NI trade and gain an understanding of the essentials required to facilitate Great Britain - Northern Ireland goods movements.  This course will also communicate the value of the Trader Support Service (TSS) in supporting logistics processes and procedures for traders.

Great Britain to Northern Ireland Trade - overview of trader requirements for goods moving between GB and NI from 1 January 2021, what efficient trading processes will look like, and the importance of agreeing terms of trade through Incoterms

Introduction to Tariffs and Classification - overview explaining the importance of tariff/commodity codes, highlights the commercial benefits of ensuring they are used correctly and how this supports successful and efficient GB:NI goods movements and trade arrangements.

Trade Procedures and Documentation - overview of procedure and documentation requirements for goods moving between GB and NI from 1st January 2021.  The course will cover documentation and procedures relevant to NI trade? and what documents and procedures traders will need to complete and comply with.
